2025 Summer
I want to once again take this opportunity to thank the voters of Palatine Township for my reappointment as the Highway Commissioner. As Highway Commissioner for the Road District, I have continued to lower my levy. I have reduced spending and created capital and infrastructure schedules to ensure proper, fiscal spending. I do not take this position casually or for granted as I am excited to continue my work and further the excellent support that Palatine Township Road District offers. Coordinating services throughout the year with surrounding municipalities is a great example of finding cost saving measures and programs. Through intergovernmental agreements, local agencies are effectively and efficiently providing quality service to all your infrastructure needs, such as snow and ice removal, pothole patching, or tree trimming. I plan to continue this sharing of knowledge and coordination and expand our supplemental services.
One example is through coordination efforts with the Small Streams Maintenance Program (SSMP) of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD). These crews have provided valuable services by removing debris from creeks, streams, and waterways. The success of the SSMP depends on this cooperation and coordination among all communities to efficiently and respectfully manage the waterways. If you find downed trees or debris within the waterway, please contact us and we will coordinate with the SSMP for cleanup.
Strong summer storms seem to appear without warning and can leave a path of debris. Always have multiple ways to receive alert information such as your cell phone, text messages like Wireless Emergency Alerts, local radio and tv stations, NOAA weather radios, and outdoor sirens. Know the difference between a watch and a warning. Watches are meant to keep you alert with an eye on the sky. While warnings are meant for you to act and look for cover. Our road crews will be dispatched after the storms to first ensure that any obstructed roadways have been cleared. If damage is extensive, road crews can then focus on collecting storm damage from private properties. Please call to schedule a pickup. We will only collect storm damage if the debris has been placed with branch or cut side facing the edge of the street. If you have small brush or branches, please tie them with twine in bundles 4 ft. or less in length and 2 ft. or less in diameter.
We are in the process of resurfacing the roadways in the northeast corner of the Township, Tiburon Subdivision in the Arlington Heights area. Last year, we trimmed all the parkway trees for roadway clearance and removed any dead or diseased trees. We are milling the roadways 2”, inspecting, patching, priming, and resurfacing with 2” of asphalt surface course. We also replaced compromised sidewalks and curb and gutters. To keep our roadways fully maintained and functional, permits are necessary for any home or driveway improvement. Permits are free of charge and easy to complete. We use the permits, certificate of insurance and surety bond to document contractors and hold them accountable for any accidental damage that may occur within the roadway right of way. For permit applications and supporting documentation visit our website roaddistrict.com.
Once again, thank you for your continued support in my confirmation as Highway Commissioner. I will continue to ensure that Palatine Township Road District is available for all your infrastructure concerns, and with my hard-working and knowledgeable staff, we will strive to meet your expectations. If you have any questions, concerns or need additional information regarding our services, please email me at adelmar@palatinetownship-il.gov.
