2013-01-27 Ice Storm

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch covering the entire Chicago area for late Sunday (January 27th) morning through Sunday evening.  The main threat from this storm system will be freezing rain that will produce an icy glaze on untreated sidewalks, streets and highways.   The most treacherous conditions are expected to occur between Noon and 8PM.  After 8PM, a northward bound influx of Gulf moisture will push the dew point above 32 degrees, forcing temperatures in most areas to rise above the freezing point.  The freezing rain will also coat trees and power lines, resulting in the possibility of power outages.  Little or no snow will occur in association with this storm across northern Illinois and northwest Indiana.  Some snow is possible in Wisconsin and Minnesota.
